Planetes

The story of Planetes follows the crew of the DS-12 "Toy Box" of the Space Debris Section, a unit of Technora Corporation. Debris Section's purpose is to prevent the damage or destruction of satellites, space stations and spacecraft from collision with debris in Earth's and the Moon's orbits. They use a number of methods to dispose of the debris (namely by burning it via atmospheric reentry or through salvage), accomplished through the use of EVA suits, where the participants are all licensed to collect debris.

The episodes sometimes revolve around debris collection itself, but more often the concept of collecting "trash" in space is merely a storytelling method for building character development. The members of the Debris Section are looked down upon as the lowest members of the company and they must work hard to prove their worth to others and accomplish their dreams.

Mortal Kombat : Mini Series

The comic series began following the release of the first Mortal Kombat game in 1992 for home consoles, which was already a phenomenial hit in the arcades. The comic books were originally released following the pre-order of the game to give fans some background information of Mortal Kombat, and to also hype up the fans about the game. The comic books were supposed to end there, seeing that the fans were supposed to be more interested in playing the game rather than reading about it . However, it was realised upon that the comic book series had garned some sales potential, and therefore the trend of selling the comic book series began.
The comics were popular, especially during the rise of the Mortal Kombat series. Sadly, as the series lost popularity in the late 1990s so did the comic books.

Hard Boiled by Frank Miller

Hard Boiled is a comic book written by Frank Miller published in three issues in 1990. At the time of its publication it was generally regarded as the most violent comic book series ever written.

The book is Miller's very loose interpretation of Philip K. Dick's The Electric Ant, but tinged with Miller's brand of satire and violence. The somewhat minimal plot revolves round a tax collector who discovers he is a robot and sets out to find answers. This story essentially provides a showcase for Darrow's incredibly intricate artwork. Miller's usual trademark of dark, emotionally complex characters in pathos is still slightly present but takes a back seat to the gory splash pages. One of the series' oddest aspects is that nearly all blood is inked in black, perhaps to reduce the shock of the violence.

Plans for a film adaptation starring Nicolas Cage were rumoured to be in the works, but this has yet to be confirmed. In The Matrix Revisited, the Wachowski brothers cite Hard Boiled as an influence on the development of their Matrix series of films.

Ghost Rider vol2 by Garth Ennis

Ghost Rider is stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who, in order to save the life of his mentor, agreed to give his soul to Satan. Instead his soul was bonded with the entity called Zarathos. When emitting Zarathos’ powers, Blaze's head became a flaming skull and he wielded a fiery motorcycle and trademark blasts of hellfire from his skeletal hands. He starred in an eponymous series from 1973-1983.

This one is a second six-issue miniseries by writer Garth Ennis and artist Clayton Crain, entitled "Road to Damnation," debuted in November 2005. This new series also involves Johnny Blaze, and focuses on his (futile) attempts at escaping from Hell. This series presents Blaze as the human host, with a slightly new look. His new powers include being able to breathe hellfire like a dragon, and launching chains from his throat in the same manner.

Joe Ledger was the only candidate who was focused and single minded enough to be able to control the mysterious crystal found in Hyperion's space ship. Shortly after he began testing it, it was absorbed into his skin and he lapsed into a coma. In a dream-state, Joe Ledger meets someone who first looks like an old girlfriend, and starts reliving parts of his life.

A doctor named Doctor Norton starts looking for a way to save his life, but General Casey tells him "That crystal will always be our first priority". While Ledger is being moved by ambulance, one of the medical technicians touches the crystal (despite being ordered not to), and turns into a statue of crumbling ash. Later, when the crystal is brought within close proximity to the remains of Hyperion's spacecraft, it releases a blast of energy, blowing a hole in the ground and sending Ledger-- still unconscious-- on an out-of-control flight. In Joe's mind the crystal starts talking to him; the Prism says that it is Power, and Joe likes power. Joe asks the power prism what its mission is: to help Hyperion take over the Earth.

American Splendor by Harvey Pekar

American Splendor is a series of autobiographical comic books and graphic novels written by Harvey Pekar and drawn by a variety of artists. It was adapted into a movie in 2003.
Pekar was one of the first writers to believe that everyday real life could be a viable topic for comic books, traditionally the province of fantasy-adventure and other genre stories. He began his series in 1976 while working as a file clerk at a Veteran's Administration hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Being unable to draw himself, he recruited his friend and underground comics artist Robert Crumb to help create a comics series based on Pekar's own life.

Garfield

Garfield is a comic strip created by Jim Davis, featuring the cat Garfield, the pet dog Odie, and their socially inept owner Jon Arbuckle. As of 2006, it is syndicated in roughly 2,570 newspapers and journals and it currently holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip .The popularity of the strip has led to an animated cartoon show, several animated television specials and two feature-length live-action films.

The strip pokes fun at pet owners and their relationship with their pets, often portraying the pet as the true master of the home. Garfield also struggles with human problems, such as diets, loathing of Mondays, apathy, boredom, and so on. Garfield is able to understand anything that Jon or other humans say. He supposedly cannot talk back, but often Jon seems to be able to tell what he is saying just from his expression or gestures which are much like those of a human. However, Garfield is able to talk in "thinking" to Odie and the other animals.

Sin City

Sin City is arguably one of the best Graphic novels ever written and made into a movie. Sin City is the title for a series of stories by Frank Miller, told in comic book form in a film noir-like style. The first story originally appeared in Dark Horse Presents comic book from April of 1991 to June of 1992, under the title of Sin City, serialized in thirteen parts. Several other stories of variable lengths have followed. All stories take place in Basin City, with frequent recurring characters and intertwining stories.

A movie adaptation of Sin City, co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller with "special guest director" Quentin Tarantino, was released on April 1, 2005. The Sin City graphic novels were reprinted with new covers and in a reduced size to coincide with the motion picture's theatrical release. Rodriguez has expressed a desire to begin filming two sequels back-to-back starting late 2006/early 2007 for release sometime in 2007 and 2008

V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta was written by Alan Moore and illustrated mostly by David Lloyd, set in a dystopian future United Kingdom. A mysterious anarchist named "V" works to destroy the authoritarian government, profoundly affecting the people whom he encounters.

The series is set in a near-future Britain after a limited nuclear war, which has left much of the world destroyed. In this future, an extreme fascist party called Norsefire has arisen. "V", an anarchist revolutionary dressed in a Guy Fawkes mask, begins an elaborate, violent, and theatrical campaign to bring down the government.

There is an emphasis on technology, especially closed-circuit television monitoring in the mode of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. The series was filmed into the 2005 movie of the same name by the Wachowski brothers (Matrix trilogy Fame)
